Lara Jo Regan's career as a photographer has been exceptionally diverse,
spanning the journalistic, art and commercial worlds, with the rare
distinction of achieving serious acclaim and respect in all.
With a background in Anthropology and fine art, Regan’s work combines
painterly beauty with discriminating (and often humorous) social
commentary, a distinctive style she has applied to everything from
impoverished Appalachians to the Hollywood elite. Her interpretive
documentary coverage of all facets of American culture has been
regularly published in national magazines such as Time, Newsweek, Life,
Premiere and Entertainment Weekly. She is the recipient of many of the
field's highest honors, including Pictures of the Year awards and the
World Press Photo of the Year, photojournalism's most coveted honor.
Ironically, Regan later also became known for creating a cultural
phenomenon rather than covering one, as the artist behind the What is
Mr. Winkle? photo collection featured in best-selling calendars, cards
and books that transformed her otherworldly former stray pup, Mr.
Winkle, into an international cult and merchandising icon. The success
of Mr. Winkle has allowed Regan, in recent years, to devote more time to
personal long-term conceptual fine art projects, and the completion of
her first film.
Regan's work has been exhibited throughout the world and is part of many
collections. She has been a featured guest on many television broadcasts
such as CNN, the BBC, and The Today Show. Major articles about her work
have appeared in dozens of prominent publications such as, The New York
Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, and The London Guardian.
